The Manic Street Preachers

Manic Street Preachers- This is The Day

Music Video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6_TfAGPqKM

The music video This Is The Day demonstrates their genre characteristics with the punk style in the clothing and stage performance. The dancing is reckless and unrestrained reflecting their music.
The video uses montages of old pictures and videos from the band showing them in together off the stage and behind the scenes.  The lyrics amplifying the visuals.

The visual style of the video includes several close up on band members faces and reoccurring images of the band members joking around with each other. The use of the old film reel compliments the theme of the video of old memories and the past.

Theodor Adorno

Theodor Adorno was a German philosopher and musicologist known for his critical theory of society. His theories were often focused on mass media and how it populated the population. He wrote that "the same thing is offered to everybody by the standardised production of consumption goods".  Theodor Adorno believed that unless you were outside what he called the "Culture Industry", any voice of disagreement with strong opinions and beliefs could not possibly be realised.

The band The Manic Street however proved successful by singing with Sony and have real eased music which has spanned a variety of controversial issues.

He believed that mass media was creating passive consumers that just absorbed information rather than actively processing it.

RESEARCH: British Music Experience

On the 20th of June we went to the British Music Experience in the 02 in London. This gave as an initial grounding on the British Music industry and too look at how popular music has developed since 1945 to the present day. We were lucky enough to have an opportunity to get a one and one workshop with a British Music expert.

With over 3,000 images, 600 video clips, 3,000 artist videos and over 600 items of artist and music memorabilia, the British Music Experience is a must see for any music fan.

The British Music Experience provided me with a range of album visuals used by artist's which helped me to start to think about the visuals I would want to use for my music video.
