CONSTRUCTION: Editing Techniques

BEFORE

 AFTER

By rotating the image slightly in Adobe Photoshop we were able to make the shot cleaner, which results in a stronger visual impact for the audience. Rather than having the silver sidebar coming into the shot, we cut it out in order to have a straight line which is more visually clean.

CONSTRUCTION: GENRE ALBUM COVER ANALYSIS

I think the study of Representation is key in establishing our Album Cover Design.

For Fij's genre of Indie/Rock we looked at similar bands of that genre and analysed their album covers in order to determine what code and conventions are established. For all three album covers the artists themselves are seen on it often in a full body shot, however this differs from the Pop album covers where there is typically a close up. Often the band members are engaging in conversation or activity.

The band Mumford and Sons interestingly still use this full body shot but instead inside the shop window giving the consumer a challenge in trying to identify them. The band most likely would have found that this particular place captured the essence of their album and found it fitting in representing their image.

However, for the Indie gene it is hard to pin point code and conventions for album covers since as a "Indie" band they will often try to express their individuality. They will break boundaries which gives our cover for Fij many opportunity's in being creative in representing our image.

Our final album cover is similar to the other bands in the respect that it's primary focus is also the lead singer. It also presents a full body shop it order to show the urban style of Jonny. The brick wall contributes to the grittiness of the bands image whilst the font compliments this by also being sketch like. Through Jonny's styling and confident body language it would be relatable to our target audience of young adults.

CONSTRUCTION: Skateboarding/ Party

This skateboarding shots we think are interesting for the music video since it entails lots of movement and ability to be creative with shot types. We have an establishing shot of the skate park along with many long shots to show the skateboarder in movement.
This is an urban backing which is fitting for our genre of indie.

This is one of party scene shots which will be montaged into our music video to emphasise it is the last time this boys all have together. By putting all there drinks together in the middle it symbolises their bond of friendship. The shots from the party are mostly handheld to add to the hustle and bustle movement of a party. Although less dynamic shots than skateboarding, this scene was also important to film since it shows Jonny with his friends in a new environment other than school and sports.

CONSTRUCTION: Album Cover Critique

In order for our album cover to effectively convey our genre of Indie/Alternative, we thought that there must be an urban element involved. The brick wall gives the picture a gritty feel, whilst the bold font allowed us to portray the confidence of our lead signer Jonny. With only the three characters of " F I J", our group had the flexibility to use big bold fonts like such which we think is fitting for the cover. Since Jonny is the primary focus of the music video, the repetition of him enforces this while also contributing to the building of his star image as lead singer. The red tint within the brick wall is brought out with Jonny's bold red shoes which make a statement of individuality which would be relatable to the target audience of the Indie Genre.

CONSTRUCTION: Production of Digi Pack Cover

After taking the original photographs (shown below) we then photo cloned and merged them together to create this effective looking front cover, which mimics the main use of stop motion throughout our music video.

After adding the finishing touches to the photo cloning, we then had to focus on the title, and most importantly the font. We went on the website 'Dafont' in which we took the font called 'Colleged' and used it to our advantage. The font had this rugged, gritty and urban feel which we felt work in correlation with the brick wall in the back ground. While this proving effective the font is also bold, which makes it that more effective.

PLANNING: DIGI PACK COVER

Whilst brainstorming for how we want to represent Fij on our Digi pack cover, we decided that a mid or profile shot of lead singer Jonny would be effective. Through a profile shot we can present the genre of our music through the clothing and style of the lead singer. By profiling Jonny it was also attract our target audience since they will find the person representing the band on the album cover relatable

Here is a collage put together of images we feel will be similar to our Album Cover.

These images mostly consist of teenage boys expressing their individual style or engaging in activities that they would usually do. We think that through an album cover like this it would mirror our music video effectively which shows Jonny also expressing himself through style and enjoying activities with his friends before university.
